Flo's Friendly Foods innovated a re-use centric school lunch catering system at three Alameda County schools by replacing single-use containers, packaging, and utensils with stainless steel tiffins and utensils. This project was supported by an Innovation grant from StopWaste. Flo’s Friendly Foods prevents, annually:
  • 24,318 pieces of single-use packaging, weighing 844 pounds
  • $1,306 of annual net cost savings
Owner, Florence Ericksson, plans to deploy these circular re-use practices for all of the 25+ schools she services throughout the Bay Area. The pilot program is still ongoing. The projected impact of reusable foodware implementation at all 25+ schools that contract with Flo’s Friendly Foods would yield more than $16,000 in annual net cost savings and the reduction of 350,000 disposable items, annually. Flo's is not only teaching our children that there are other ways other than throwaway, but they are also keeping our kids away from toxins found in plastic packaging AND protecting the environment.
